Industry leaders come together for pioneering 5G cybersecurity solution

An ambitious initiative has been developed in partnership between Nexus, Telefónica, DEKRA, CTAG, Harman and HPE in order to make vehicular communications more effective, reliable and secure by using 5G and cryptographic technology.

V2X communication enables numerous use cases including emergency vehicle detection, roadwork warnings, collision detection, autonomous driving and more. An essential part to this is security, specifically, the authenticity and integrity of the data that is used to make critical decisions.

Trusted identities are the foundation for V2X communication. The Nexus V2X PKI solution was used during this project to ensure that the integrity of each message and the authorization of its sender can be guaranteed while preserving privacy. Nexus' solution is fully compliant with the European V2X regulations and is based on the Smart ID Certificate Manager which is certified in accordance with Common Criteria EAL4+.

The developed solution combines 5G connectivity, C-V2X vehicular communication technology and cryptographic technologies to provide anonymous and interoperable cybersecurity certificates valid throughout the European Union that ensure both the integrity of the vehicular communications and trust between the different players in the connected mobility ecosystem.
