PKI in Industry: The Factory CA

The cybersecurity of IoT devices not only affects smart home and consumer electronics products but also vehicles and industrial equipment. How can connected device manufacturers ensure the security of their devices once they in-the-field?

Tamás Horváth, PKI expert at Nexus, will give an overview of typical IoT threats and the corresponding security goals at the upcoming event hosted by KA-IT-Si (Karlsruhe IT Security Initiative).

During the course of his lecture, Tamás will explain why PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) is best suited for IoT solution security and how the provisioning of digital identities can be implemented during production and operation.

The lecture will also include a case study to showcase how this can be implemented in real life. STIHL, a German manufacturer of lawnmowers and other handheld power equipment, leverages PKI-based identities in their internet-enabled iMow lawnmower robots. We will take a closer look at how an autonomous Factory Certificate Authority can help with digital identity provisioning.
