Etisalat accelerates 5G transition with Smart ID IoT

To effectively leverage the 5G network, mobile network operators (MNOs) must overcome security challenges and vulnerabilities. Assigning trusted identities to devices and encrypting communication between them provides end-to-end security that guarantees high availability of the telecom network.

Etisalat is the first network service provider to introduce 5G in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. To ensure smooth rollout across UAE, they wanted to implement a PKI solution for certificate management for radio cells and eNodeB/gNodeB within the backhaul network, as well as to a wide range of other IoT/network devices, servers, etc. in a multi-vendor environment.

With Smart ID IoT for 5G, Etisalat can provision trusted identities to all devices within their network. This enables secure exchange of information and promotes high trust within a diversified environment.

Nexus PKI solution, part of Smart ID IoT, offers flexibility and operational integrity required for 5G transformation. It is based on open standards and supports all certificate provisioning protocols.

The Smart ID IoT platform also secures multiple use-cases such as 5G Backhaul Protection, 5GC Function Communication, and Virtualization Platforms PKI.

This win marks another successful joint effort between Nexus and Emircom in the region.
